    Brief Description : xanthusBase (http://www.xanthusbase.org) is the official model organism database (MOD) for the social bacterium Myxococcus xanthus. M. xanthus is a model organism for the study of the genetic, biochemical, and mechanistic basis of prokaryotic multicellularity, a topic that has garnered considerable attention due to the significance of biofilms in both basic and applied microbiology research. xanthusBase is the central repository for all genomic data pertaining to M. xanthus. This database describes each M. xanthus gene, its gene product, putative annotation, relevant publications, and any functional classifications such as GO and PFAM; further annotations are provided by community members.xanthusBase is the first MOD to employ wikipedia editing principles which have been superimposed onto a standardized genome database. This curation schema allows for the full participation of all M. xanthus community members to actively annotate the genome.
